Your plans can continue!

Keene, home of the Adirondack High Peaks, was hit hard by Tropical Storm Irene as were other hamlets along the Ausable Valley. The 10+ inches of rain caused tremendous damage to roads, bridges, homes and businesses, but thanks to a wonderful volunteer effort, the National Guard, New York State, Essex County and others we are digging out.

Good news is that most of the High Peaks Trailheads are open (Cascade, the Garden, Rooster Comb and Giant from 9N) and the Dix Range/Chapel Pond should be open in a week. All our restaurants, B&Bs, stores and galleries are open, the leaves are just starting to turn and there are 22 new slides to explore this winter. Now is a great time to visit.

However, as can be seen in Paul Smith professor Kurt Stager's visual tour, the damage was very grave, more so coming just 4 month after the spring flood that resulted in the largest landslide in NYS recorded history. People and businesses need help. A fund has been established to help the community recover. Go to www.keenefloodrecoveryfund.org to learn how you can help or, if in need, how to apply.
