GREEN TIP OF THE MONTH

If your faucet drips at a rate of 2 drops per second, you are losing over 3 gallons of water each day or 100 gallons each month.  Get a pipe wrench and tighten those seals.  Replace old worn hardware.  Call a plumber if you need help.  Once you fix the leak, here are a few suggestions to further save on your water bill.  If you use a dishwasher, always fill it completely and choose the fastest setting.  When washing by hand, soak to soften the residue, then scrub with a brush or sponge.  Only use running water for a final rinse.  Use a minimum of cooking water to retain nutrients and save on cooking time.  Pasta needs much less water than the package instructs, just stir frequently.  Save cooking water for soups, grains, and bread dough.  A microwave or pressure cooker retains more moisture than the stovetop or oven.  Make one-pot meals to save on washing.  Place dirty pots in the sink to collect used water, instead of soaking them in clean water.
